Concert: Foreigner
Date: August 17, 2013
Had the opportunity to see Foreigner at the Antelope Valley Fair in Lancaster, CA. Though Lancaster is a bit far for most people in LA County, this was an inexpensive option to experience a band with a deep catalog of strong rock songs. Even more inexpensive is the general admission section, which is free with a $10 ticket to the fair.
The Production: Two screens
on either side of the stage showed close-up images of the performers on-stage. The sounds system was slightly distorted during one song but otherwise was consistently adequate. There wasn't much in terms of the lighting effects, but not
much was needed. At 52 years of age, Kelly Hansen had enough energy to pump-up the crowd throughout the show.
The Performance: When it comes to energizing the crowd, Kelly Hansen is very effective. At one point he disappeared from the stage only to re-appear walking on chairs within the crowd. Beginning the show with their hit "Double Vision" was a great opening, followed by "Cold as Ice" and "Say You Will". At the mid-point of the show, Hansen left the stage again while each band member performed a solo. This may have been the only lag in the show, which was then immediately revived by their hit song "Jukebox Hero". The encore finished the concert with "I Wanna Know What Love Is" and the highly energetic "Hot Blooded". These guys came to work, being fully engaged and seemed committed to engage the audience during every song. I was fortunate to pay my respects to this band.
